Annette Risley, the President and founding officer of Risley, CPA, PC, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed in both New Mexico and Texas. Annette was originally licensed in the State of Texas in 1987, and then in the State of New Mexico in 1989. She continues to hold active licenses in good standing to practice public accounting in both states, meeting their requirements of continuing professional education and ethical standards. Annette's reputation for quality workproduct and personal service has been the contributing factor to her firm's growth and strong client base. Annette is also a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and long-time user and fan (over 20 years) of the Intuit line of QuickBooks programs. In addition to providing QuickBooks services to her clients, she has also contracted with San Juan College in conjunction with the SBDC to conduct QuickBooks training several times a year to businesses in our community. Annette graduated cum laude from Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, TX in 1982 earning a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Accounting. During and after college, she was employed by the accounting firm of Ray & Company, CPAs in Abilene, TX, where she had the opportunity to experience all three facets of public accounting - small business accounting, auditing and tax. In 1983 Annette married and moved to Bryan, TX with her husband where she furthered her experience in small business accounting and tax while employed with Martin, Slovacek & Thompson, CPAs. In 1985, Annette joined Ed Slovacek (senior & originating partner of the firm of Martin, Slovacek & Thompson) as he opened his independent firm with an emphasis in financial planning as well as accounting and tax, where her duties included supervising the bookkeeping department and tax preparation. In 1987, Annette moved to New Mexico with her husband where she scaled back her career to raise her young family. She continued to maintain her license and skills by working part time with several local CPAs, assisting them with their loads during peak times. She also served as a part-time adjunct professor at San Juan Community College teaching accounting classes, and as a trainer at the San Juan College Business & Industry Center teaching QuickBooks. In 2008, Annette established her own firm, resuming her full-time career in accounting. Annette is a long-time resident of the Four Corners, and currently resides in Farmington, NM with her husband of over 36 years, Gary (attorney and shareholder of The Risley Law Firm, PC), and their canine companions, Scooter and Pippin. Although the "nest" is now empty, she treasures her time spent with their three grown children, their spouses, and her five adorable grandchildren. When time permits, Annette enjoys travelling and curling up with a good book.
